"The Painted Turtle."
The Painted Turtle.
~The Latin word for painted turtle is Chrysemys picta.
~The painted turtle is the only turtle to range across a whole continent.
~They are 4-10 inches long.
~They have a yellow plastron, there skin is black olive and has red stripes on his head , neck,tail and legs.
~ The painted turtle’s habitat is wetlands, plant filled ponds, streams and lakes. You may see groups of painted turtles on logs or rocks.
~ Painted turtles eat snails insects and pieces of lily pad!
Raccoons are omnivorous.
Raccoons can grow to 40 lbs.
They can grow 1 meter long The tail takes up one-third of the body.
They walk on their entire foot.
They live in Canada, Central America, and every state in the US except parts of Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Idaho.
They live in forests near swamps.
A red fox looks like a medium size dog with black legs and feet.
It likes to dig dens and lives in old groundhog holes.
It feeds on mice, cottontail rabbits and it is nocturnal.

. The hawk’s largest nest is built out sticks and leaves and the female lays from 1 to 5 white eggs.
The beaver is America’s largest rodent.
Adults maybe 4 feet long and weigh over 60 pounds.
Beavers have three reasons why they have tails.
#1 they use it to swim under water.
#2 they use it to warn other beavers.
#3 they use it to store fat for the winter.
The Black Bear
A black bear eats plants and lots of different stuff.
A black bear lives in the forest.
A black bear can climb trees very well.
A black bear runs very fast.
A black has short claws.
The Gray Fox
~They eat birds berries and rodents.
~They live in woodland forests.
~They can become up to 47 in. long.
~They are the only fox that can climb trees.

The Great Blue Heron
The great blue heron is a bird.
It is 38 inches in length and 70 inches in width .
They like to be near the water.
They eat fish, frogs, salamander, lizards, snakes, crab, crayfish, dragonflies, grass hopper and other aquatic insects.
A blue heron has reddish brown neck and its eyes are yellow.
Black Capped Chickadee
Black Capped Chickadees got
their name because they have black feathers on their head that looks like a cap.
Black Capped Chickadees live in hardwood forests,
Black Capped Chickadees have black and yellow below on their stomachs and
brown and black on his head. That’s what people call a cap.
Black Capped Chickadees survive in the cold and freezing. How? They gather food, like berries, and save it for the season.
Black Capped Chickadees can live up to 6 or 12 years but some don’t.
Red Spotted Salamander

Salamanders and orange and have red spots.
Salamanders are amphibians.
They lay 200-400 eggs in water.
The Red Spotted Salamander is New Hampshire’s State amphibian.
The Fisher, Marten, and the Mink are the three closest cousins to a weasel.
Small rodents and insects are what a weasel like to eat.
Weasels live were there is plenty of food.
Weasels live in different parts of the U. S.A.
There are only 3 types of weasels that live in the U. S. A.
